Gallery in Valencia

Shiras gallery was founded in 2015, under the artistic direction of Sara Joudi. It is located on Vilaragut street in the historic center of the Valencia city, located in a historic building dating from the 40s next to the Plaza de Rodrigo Botet. Shiras is a member of the Consortium of Galleries of Contemporary Art of Spain, Lavaca (Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of the Valencian Community) and the association Valencia Excellence.
It emerges with the aim of offering an intergenerational proposal of high-caliber committed artists whose discourse is complemented by the voice of more emerging artists.
The gallery, on the one hand, with the Main hall, it celebrates our commitment to contemporary art undertaken by a selected repertoire of established artists within the current scene. On the other hand, we have our Shelter spaceOnce built as a war refuge, this intimate and isolated room, safeguarded by wide exposed brick walls, offers an exhibition space for avant-garde concepts, ephemeral installations and launching of a selection of emerging artists of high projection. On occasion, the works of permanent artists or works from gallery collections are also exhibited.

This intergenerational dialogue is part of the gallery's program, which is committed to showing painting, sculpture, drawing and installation or video art projects, being a current window towards the most avant-garde contemporary trends.
This short text is part of a review by Victor de Segrelles published in the Levante newspaper (“postscript”) on December 7, 2019.
"Located in a local downtown street Vilaragut, Valencia close to jewels of our heritage in Valencia as the palace of the Marquis de Dos Aguas or the Abbey of San Martin, in one of the most beautiful enclaves of Valencia. The exhibition hall is articulated into two spaces. The Main Hall, on the ground floor, where the more conventional exhibition program develops. And space shelter in the basement of this charming old house, built refuge during the civil war in the gallery hosts exhibitions and site specific projects and other content.
Among the exhibits you place in the Main Hall since its opening in 2015 include those dedicated to important Valencian artists, renowned as bringing together a selection of sculptures (in bronze, steel or terracotta), multiple, photographs, drawings and watercolors of the always great Valencian artist Miquel Navarro, complemented by one of its features facilities cities deployed in Space Refugio or exhibitions Rosa Torres, Rafa Calduch, Antoni Girbés, Francisco Sebastian Nicolau, Javier Chapa and Horacio Silva (currently presents in the gallery individual second "Intro-versions" with the collaboration of Fernando Castro Flórez critic). Also exposed other Valencian artists, or linked to our picture of later generations as Jose Saborit, painter and poet, Guerrero Tonda, Ana Vernia, Nuria Rodriguez, Toño Barreiro, Juan Fabuel, Carolina Valls and Juan Olivares.
Very remarkable was the exhibition-dialogue between two artists Double or Nothing, which Kookie Guillen and Mavi Escamilla, two Valencian artists recently presented his works and a series of papers made great "four hands".
Or Reflections exhibition, comisarada by the Valencian artist Sheila Toledo in which, with the link in the research and use of glass in their works works by international artists from different countries (Jens Gussek, Anna Herrgott, Masami Hirohata met, Sheila Toledo, Jens maggee, Christian Schultz, Susanne Kunkel and Verena Sachtz).
And through collective which has incorporated younger creators Valencians as Alicia Torres or Samuel Nieto.
For the small space Refugio small projects have passed Christine Bauer & Herbert Egger, two artists with international experience, Nieves Torralba, Josep Ginestar, Ricardo Esvavy, and other proposals more experimental. "
